Larva, nymph and naiad - for accuracy's sake

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2016

Abstract

Usage of terms larva, nymph and naiad for juvenile stages of insects is discussed as well as history of their establishments and original meanings, and ambiguousness in their usage. The term "larva" is recommended since it is most universal and most general in zoology.

However, the editors, reviewers and publishers should retain the terminology used by the contributing authors and let the terminology evolve by frequency of usage..
