Abstract
The article deals with Bataille's reflections of the relation of art and cruelty. In this context, the article highlights the relation between art and religious institution of sacrifice.
The article points out to Baitaille's notion that the relation to sacrifice is inscribed into art from its very birth, however, it is evident only in the light of sovereignty of modern art.
