The Hungarian campaign of Vladislaus II in the eyes of John Kinnamos and Vincentius

Abstract

The study analyses Czech-Byzantine contacts in the 1160s. The comparison of the Czech and the Byzantine narratives leads to more precise chronology and interpretation of the Czech campaign in 1164.

The study summarizes Kinnamos' view of the Czechs and accentuates the first documentated occurence of the word "Czech" in his greek-language chronicle, earlier than any Czech or Latin source.
