The Republic of Iceland is one of Europe's democracies that was the most hit by the economic crisis, followed by turbulent political changes including the historical success of the left in the elections to the Althing in 2012. However, the current president has become a certain fixed point of Icelandic policy, which could lean against voters in the election and was subsequently elected as the direct election for a fifth term.
This article deals with the analysis of the strong position of the Icelandic president within the Icelandic political system and the planned transformation of the president's position into a unique constitutional model based on the nationwide selection and Internet voting. The aim of the contribution thus is not only an analysis of the position of the head of state, but also reflection of referenda, which can render well on any proposed changes arising from the specific model of the constitution, which has yet due to political changes does not fit into force.
