Is it possible to challenge power-structure on which urban/spatial planners depend? This article addresses this question from two perspectives. A case from Czech Republic illustrates what dilemmas contracted planners faced, what intentions they followed and what implications their decisions had.

Second, the article asks if and how this one experience can be generalised and what perspectives based on planning theory could be potentially helpful for dependent planners.
