Abstract

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with large vessel occlusion is among the highest challenges of treatment in the current era of cardiovascular medicine. It affects approximately 800 000 patients in the USA annually, and the number of patients with confirmed AIS in Czech republic is about 18 000 per year.

Until recently, the only available method used in the treatment was intravenous application of thrombolytic treatment, which should start as soon as possible, up to 4.5 h (per guidelines) after beginning of symptoms.
