Content Analysis of Czech School History Textbook on Human Evolution Topics

Abstract

We analyse the correctness of content the issue of human evolution in 14 Czech history textbooks in this study. We focused upon three key fields - the conception of human evolution, analyse of species and the conception of H. sapiens.

We point out the rank of outdated information and mistakes in the history textbooks like linear image of evolution or labelling H. neaderthalensis as a subspecies of H. sapiens. We alert how a why should this misconception later complicate the understanding of evolution in the science lessons.
