The publication analyzes the activities and ideas of the Lithuanian National activist Jonas Šliupas. Jonas Šliupas was a leading activist in the Lithuanian national movement.

He belonged to a generation of journal Aušra which formulated the program of Lithuanian national emancipation. After emigration, he developed from radical democratic position, sometimes moving toward socialism, Lithuanian national ideas in the United States.

The book draws attention on its flagship publication on the relationship between Lithuanians and Poles. L. Švec deals with Šliupas's visions of the Baltic Union (Lithuanian-Latvian) and his relationship to the Czech society, especially his participation in the Mid-European Union at the end of the First World War in the United States and his relation to Thomas Garrigue Masaryk.
