Abstract

Traveler is a tool enabling visualization of RNA secondary structure using existing well-defined layout of sufficiently similar RNA structure as a template. Traveler is based on an algorithm which first converts both structures into a tree representation and then uses tree edit distance algorithm to find out minimum sequence of tree edit operations to convert one structure into the other.

It couples each tree edit operation with a layout modification operation which is then used to gradually transform the known, template, layout into the target one. Traveler is thus a software tool which accepts a pair of secondary structures and the template image and outputs the target visualization.
