Abstract

In this paper, I start with an examination of Robert Musil's (1880-1942) reflections of his own personal identity. The paper is mainly focused on attempts to interpret his prosaic and essayistic writings from a sociological perspective during the second half of the 20th century, which have been often discussing the general issues of identity (e.g.

P. L.

Berger) and nationalism.
