The book presents one period of history - so-called Normalization, the 70s and 80s of the 20th century in region of Pardubice. It focuses on areas of politics, culture, and especially the media, which are the major theme of the book.
The present text focuses on yet unexplored chapters of history in Pardubice, for example, the story of students from the University of Chemical Technology, who in 1969 stood trial for cartoons in the student magazine, or memories of that time journalists in their work. Great attention is paid to events of the Prague Spring and Soviet occupation in Pardubice - events which have influenced in region for the next twenty years.
The author drew apart from contemporary articles and documents issued by the District National Committee and district committee of the Communist Party in Pardubice also from interviews with those who were participants and witnesses of the events described. The book offers both the research community and the general public insight into selected corners of the county events in Pardubice in the last twenty years before the Velvet Revolution - not only through the prism of the cultural section of the newspapers - and contributes to the understanding the recent history of the region.
