Abstract

The paper presents the results of comparative research that was carried out among Czech, English and Scottish pupils of secondary education (ISCED 2-3). The research verifies the opinions about evolution and natural selection.

Further, it ascertains which evolutionary topics are difficult for pupils to understand. The data were gathered via an online questionnaire.

The responses from Czech pupils and British pupils were elaborated separately. In both Czech and British pupils, the results show that visual image regarding the term 'evolution' covers mostly the human evolution.

The visual image of 'natural selection' is more different. Based on some responses it is clear that several Czech and British pupils share a particular confusion and misconception about evolution and natural selection.
