Abstract

The article analyzes the life and activities of Julius Nestler (1876-1936), an amateur archaeologist from Prague active in Bolivia. It puts his activities into wider context, aspiring to reveal the complicated web of interests that stood at the roots of early Americanist archeaology in central Europe.
