Abstract
Namib Desert is considered the oldest desert ecosystems of the world. Its stability conditioned the emergence of a number of unique species.
Welwitschia mirabilis is endemic plant of the Namib Desert. On its example the chapter illustrates general ecological and evolutionary principles.
