The official guidelines of the Czech Gastroenterology Society cover all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy. The Guidelines are divided into following sections:
1) indications (preventive colonoscopy; follow-up colonoscopy; colonoscopy in symptomatic patients; contraindications);
2) preparation for colonoscopy (bowel cleansing; informed consent; antibiotic prophylaxis; management of anti-thrombotic therapy;
3) performance of colonoscopy (insertion and withdrawal; conscious sedation and monitoring of patients; chromo-colonoscopy; alternative colonoscopy techniques; documentation and reports; quality of colonoscopy);
4) therapeutic colonoscopy (forceps biopsy; endoscopic polypectomy; endoscopic mucosal resection; endoscopic submucosal dissection; histologic evaluation of malignant lesions; endoscopic haemostasis; endoscopic dilatation and stent insertion; ablation technique; endoscopic tattooing);
5) complications of colonoscopy;
6) special situations (inflammatory bowel disease; pregnancy; implantable pacemakers and defibrillators/cardioverters).
