Infections of ulcers in diabetic foot syndrome

Abstract

Diabetic foot infection is the most frequent cause of hospitalization in patients with diabetes mellitus. About half of these ulcers appear already during first clinical manifestation the signs of infection.

Infections are the most common cause of amputation in diabetic foot syndrome. Successful treatment requires a comprehensive approach, including adequate treatment of ischemia, offloading and antibiotic therapy.
