Abstract

This article presents research among women who were engaged in the dissident movement in the Czech Republic before 1989. Eleven narrative interviews with biographical features reveal the key moments that led to these women's decisions about their engagement, the links between their personal lives and major historical events, and their sense of the meaning of life which seems to be one of the main driving forces behind women's activism.

These women's perception of political engagement and the way they reflect on it as giving sense to their lives is a central part of their stories.
