Abstract

The book discusses the long-term unjustly neglected and overlooked by Prague German mathematical community, which was of the European elite in the first third of the 20th century. It book analyzes the evolution of mathematics teaching at the German University in Prague since its foundation in 1882 until her tragic end in 1945.

On the basis of archival sources, original scientific papers, memories of some personalities and secondary literature the book explains the complicated status of the Prague German mathematical community in the Czech lands. The book shows the specifics stemming from the Prague 'genius loci', indicates its links with the outside German world, describes its relationship to our and foreign professional associations and primarily evaluates scientific contribution of individual Prague German mathematicians to the development of world science.
