Descriptive geometry at the German university in Prague - branch without future and perspectives

Abstract

The article gives basic information about lectures on descriptive geometry at the German University in Prague in the period from its initiation in 1882 to its end in 1945. There are mentioned activities of Karl Bobek, Wilhelm Weiß, Josef Grünwald, Wilhelm Johann Eugen Blaschke, Karl Mack, Walter Fröhlich and Alfred Eduard Rössler who taught descriptive geometry.

Some specific issues relating to the status of descriptive geometry in our system of university education, the prospects of scientific work in descriptive geometry and requirements applied in the recruitment of university professors are discussed.
