The so-called Saite-Persian cemetery at Abusir, a small part of the extensive necropolis of the ancient capital Memphis, was founded in the middle of the first millennium BC, more precisely about 530 BC. The assemblages of ceramics from the whole excavated area (i.e. from the burial complex of Udjahorresnet, Iufaa, Menekhibnekau, Padihor, R3) came not only from heavily disturbed contexts but frequently also from intact layers.
They are, in terms of their significance and function, of a cultic, burial and embalming character.
