Abstract
The contribution deals with the history of mathematics at the Charles University in Prague, with a strong emphasis on the situation at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics since its establishment in 1952. Important moments and developments, such as teaching andresearch activities, meetings organized, Ph.D. studies, institutional background, publication achievements and varying positions of the history of mathematics and physics are discussed, described and documented.
A special attention is paid to the role of the Committee for history of mathematics and physics that was active during the eighties and early nineties of the 20th century. Its relevance is analyzed on the basis of archive materials which are published here for the first time.
