Abstract

Angiography is an interventional radiological procedure during which contract media is administered into the vessel. The indications for angiography have dramatically changed with development of ultrasonography and computer tomography.

Purely diagnostic procedures nowadays are rare, on the other hand angiography is often indicated in cases when a therapeutic interventional procedure is possible. Indications for angiography include ischemic and hemorrhagic conditions, but also various malignancies.

The advantage of these procedures is its minimal invasiveness as they are performed by percutaneous transluminal approach. Therefore they are often considered method of first choice and not only in patients where open surgery would carry a substantial risk.
