Abstract
Friedrich Dürrenmatt belongs to the classics of the world literature of the 20th century. The lecture looks at his dramas and prose, the inspiration in the schools of thought of the 19th and the 20th century, the issue of the author's historical pessimism in the dramas and the philosophical foundation of his detective and social criticism prose.
It gives an overview of all the Czech translations of the author's texts and of ths instances his plays were featured in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.
