The aim of this paper is to present the results of testing academic literacy skills and critical thinking in the English exam B2 level reading comprehension part at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. The analysis of the students' performance lies in linguistic but also non-linguistic challenges, namely the academic skills and critical thinking skills.
This indicates the need to take these aspects into consideration when designing testing materials and testing items. This will also serve as a washback to the teaching design on the courses.
