The study focuses on the Prague towns as an example of the issue of the definition of the medieval intellectual elite, whilst concentrating on those scholars who were involved in town life, i.e. with its operation and with the burgher society. The application of theoretical categories in research into the Prague conurbation of the Middle Ages is however complicated by a lack of source information.
While the conclusions of the study indicate that the Prague university produced thousands of graduates, only a minimal amount was absorbed into the Prague towns during the Middle Ages.
