Abstract

Review of the book published by John Benjamins publishing Company, Amsterdam/Philadelphia, in 2016. Ten chapters describe the history of Interpreting and the role of interpreters as mediators - starting in the 8th century in East Asia, going to Americas, describing the training of the first diplomatic interpreters between English and Chinese, the Nurenberg trials, the early years of United Nations and the simultaneous interpreting there - and finishing by the role of interpreters in the actual zones of military conflicts.
