The issue of an ill-treated, abused and neglected child is presently one of the most serious problems in the area of child care, both in terms of quantity and quality. The article explains basic terms and also possible physical and behavioural manifestations which may indicate that a child is being ill-treated, abused or neglected.
The author realizes that educational professionals are often in a difficult situation and hence provides general recommendations on communication with a child, including institutions that may be contacted in case of child protection.
