COMMUNICATING THE EMPIRE, OR HOW TO DELIVER A MESSAGE OF A KING

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

A corpus of cuneiform texts from Tell el-Amarna (ancient Akhetaten) belongs among the most thoroughly studied subjects pertaining to relations between Egypt and the Near East during the Late Bronze Age. This paper aims to turn its readers' attention towards certain mechanisms and communicative processes which were of vital importance for the Egyptian administration in the Levant.

In order to obtain a better understanding of the decision making process and the general communication pattern employed in the second half of the 18th Dynasty, the administrative/state correspondence of the Egyptian kings and their subjects is described and analysed.
