Abstract
The study analyses the painting in its contexts. The painting belonged to the first typical works of the painter.
The painting's contexts discussed in the study are following: 1/ women martyrs in art of the time, 2/ historical iconography of St. Ludmilla and 3/ both sources and responses to the Max's painting in art.
The study is accompanied by a brief history of the painting.
