In this research, the effect of various factors was studied on the development of landslide by Dobkovičky quarry in June 2013, which blocked the unfinished motorway D8. In particular, the effects of (1) quarry landfill, (2) train corridor, (3) motorway cut and (4) excessive rainfall were studied.
To solve the problem, 3D finite element model was setup using finite element method (software Plaxis 3D). Finally, it was concluded that Dobkovičky landslide was caused by a combination of quarry landfill loading and excessive rainfall.
Such a landslide would not lead to highway damage, however. Highway was blocked due to unsuitable way the highway was cut into the slope without sufficient reinforcement.
