Interactive Czech: Combination of an e-learning course with in-class teaching

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

Interactive Czech is a B1-level course (according to CEFR). It originated as a result of cooperation between the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies at The University of Sheffield and the Institute of Czech Studies at FF UK, Prague.

It consists of an on-line learning program and a workbook. The on-line version of the course builds on its older CD-based version, which has been rebuilt and reconceptualised in the Moodle LMS.

Our contribution presents the course as a whole, e.g. its thematic content, grammar topics and structure of the lessons as well as the principal methodological conception of the authors. It also focuses on the advantages of its new on-line version and on its innovations and improvements.

Last but not least it provides an example of how the course is used with second year students of Czech at The University of Sheffield. The course enables both a lively interaction in the classroom and individual work on-line.
