New data for a preliminary understanding of the Roman settlement network in South Coastal Tuscany, The case of Alberese (Grosseto, IT)

Abstract

Southern Tuscany has been the focus of considerable archaeological research in the last 30 years, and intensive held projects have significantly enhanced our understanding of early to late Medieval settlement trends. We remain surprisingly ill-informed, however, about settlement and production in the coastal area during the Roman period (second century BC - sixth century AD) - due largely to the absence of sustained and significant research programmes.
