The main aim of the study is to further explore the relation of selected psychological characteristics and doping-related attitudes and behavior in youth athletes. The variables in the study included reported use of doping, doping intention, and attitudes towards cheating in sports.
Furthermore, we analyzed relationships between these variables and motivational orientations of our respondents. The study was grounded in Nicholls' theory of achievement motivation proposing ego and task orientations as two major motivational characteristics that may be associated with doping-related attitudes, intentions and behavior.
We used two instruments for measuring the motivational orientations: Sources of Sport-Confidence Questionnaire and Perception of Success Questionnaire. .2851 respondents participated in the study, including recreational and competitive athletes.
