The article presents various ways of diagnosing frailty and it explains the importance of ascertaining the diagnosis of frailty when evaluating the risks and benefits of surgeries in seniors. Due to the aging population, often riddled with a variety of diseases and comorbidities and affected by frailty and due to the increasing extent of surgical treatment, enabled by increased safety of anaesthesia, the requirements for preoperative and pre-anaesthesia examinations.
Screening for frailty should take place in all patients over 70.
