The role of general practitioner in assessment of occupational diseases

Abstract

In the Czech Republic, only the disease mentioned in the List of occupational diseases is possible to report as a professional illnes. Stated disease must to reach to certain degree of seriousness. Confirmation of work by the conditions, in which the occupational disease could arise, is necessary. The statement to the factors of work conditions gives the public health office specialist in work hygiene. In the Czech Republic, about 1 200 new cases of occupational diseases a year were reported. The most often reported illnesses are the disorders of musculosceletal system by the work with vibration tools and by overloading of upper extremities, further the skin diseases and diseases of respiratory tract. The role of registering general practitioner is:

1. when suspected occupational disease, to send the patient with the recommendation to locally relevant departement of occupational medicine;

2. to make an excerpt from medical documentation, to connect medical reports with relationship to consideration disease;

3. to send patiens with the determined/confirmed diagnosis to examination in the department of occupational medicine;

4. to know the List of occupational diseases, at least generally;

5. to cooperate with relevant providers of health services in preventive occupational medicine.
