The methodology defines relevant administrative procedures within the existing laws that public authorities in nature protection (and in related areas) may follow in order to foster natural restoration, based on evaluation of a potential of succession processes in areas affected by mining. The methodology is complemented by a set of indicators for assessment of a potential of succession processes in areas affected by mining and a tabular overview of respective phases of exploration, exploitation and remediation of consequences of mining and quarrying.
The novelty of this methodology rests in a comprehensive approach which combines state-of-the-art scientific knowledge of succession mechanisms and restoration ecology with available procedures in existing administrative law. It will thus bring an innovation to practices of public authorities, what should contribute to a preservation and promotion of recovering habitats, as well as to increase the predictability of public decision-making.
