Abstract
The paper deals with the specification of the genre of the novel "Why We Took the Car" by Wolfgang Herrndorf in the context of problem-oriented literature for teenagers, school novels from the beginning of the 20th century and in the context from Contemporary Road movie. The paper also presents a portrait of the author, who is still rather unknown in the Czech setting.
