How was it with the Papal Ban on Learning and teaching Roman Law?

Publication at Catholic Theological Faculty |

Abstract

Some popes in the 12th and 13th centuries forbade to clerics and religious people - among other things - studies of secular (i. e. Roman) law.

Pope Honorius III. (1216 - 1227) even forbade the teaching of Roman law at the Univerzity of Paris. The article tries to analyze for such bans, especially when one considers at the time Ecclesia vivit lege Romana.
