This article analyzes the theoretical concept of temporary autonomous zones written by post-anarchist author Peter Lamborn Wilson, acting under the pseudonym Hakim Bey. Despite the fact that Bey perceived his work (TAZ) as an essay or an instruction and not as a comprehensive philosophical-political dogma, his ideas have influenced many protest movements, anti-systemic organizations, and even subcultures.

We can cite several examples, such as some fragments of the squatting movement or the Rainbow and Freetek subcultures. It is our assumption that, by using this concept, we can also clarify the structure and activities of the hacking movement Anonymous, whose existence has polarized a major part of society.

Its sympathizers see the movement as a possible way of changing the political system while its opponents consider Anonymous to be a terrorist organization or an organized criminal group. In this article, we will also analyze the theoretical criticism of Bey's conclusions.
