Despite popular opinion, social enterprise in Central and Eastern Europe is not simply a result of socio-economic and political transformation which began in this region in 1989 (Leś and Kolin, 2009). Similarly, the emergence of social enterprises has not only been influenced by a shift in country regulatory frameworks and public funding being a result of the integration of Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic to the European Union in 2004, even if this factor seems to be the most investigated one when describing current social enterprises.
