We are building the New Prague! Spatial and Visual Dimension of Stalinism in the Context of Historical Cities

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

The Stalinist period of the modern Czechoslovak history is usually reflected only through the simplistic quasi-totalitarian paradigm. Based on example of Prague, the paper deals with an alternative perspective inspired by some ideas of the "spatial turn".

The process of (re)constructing the historical urban space and the image of the city is analyzed as one of the most important tools for realization of the communist vision of the new society.
