Abstract

Influenza is an infectious disease that causes epidemics of various dimensions every year in the winter months. The disease affects all age groups of the population and its course is widely variable, ranging from mild to lethal.

Chronic patients and the elderly are at the greatest risk, but a serious course occurs even in healthy children or adults. Vaccination is the most important method of preventing influenza and its potential severe complications.

Novel vaccines should improve the protection against this massively occurring disease
