Walter Lindau whose real name Leopold Winternitz (1833-1911) was playwright, storyteller and author of opera librettos born in southern Bohemia. As medicine student of the Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague he wrote a cycle of poems "Freudenklänge" ("Sounds of Joy") linked to an important event, the birth of the crown prince Rudolph of Habsburg, the son of the Emperor Francis Joseph I in 1858.
The study delivers an analysis of the poems. They depicted not only the glorious history of the House of Habsburg.
Though written by a poet of Jewish origin they expressed in detail the strategy of Habsburg rulers by presenting the core family members as a translation of Jesus Christ.
