Public Participation and Environmental Protection in the Building Permit and Land Use Process - Comparison of Oregon and Czech Law

Abstract

This article analyzes various roles of public participation in pursuing environmental protection during land use and construction decision-making. The author draws on historical experience of the North American State of Oregon land use reform in the second half of 20th Century.

Further, this article summarizes legal grounds for issuing building permits and compares selected phases of the permitting process from the view of public participation under laws of Oregon and the Czech Republic.
