A possible approach to an understanding of the everyday world of prisoners in their actual imprisonment

Abstract

The project comes from the needs of praxis to understand the world of everydayness of the inmates during their imprisonment. The classic studies from the 50'-80' described prison subcultures through the prevailing Parsons' paradigm as a more or less static structure with a minimal individual choice of an actor.

Very similar approach exists also in penological literature in Czech Republic. Therefore I propose a study based on a phenomenological paradigm using a hermeneutic circle methodic (Heidegger) which enables to explicate how an individual projects his possibilities in his actual (limited) being without reducing him to a piece of a grey mass of the inmates.

This project aspires not only to enrich the specific area in social sciences, but also to enhance a treatment with the imprisoned.
