Abstract
The chapter explores life of Chinese poet Ai Qing, fater of Ai Weiwei, focusing on the problem of civilization crisis in 20th century China and ideology of the Chnese Communist Party, particularly from the perspective of its relation to art and the intellectuals. Comparison with the politics of Xi Jiinping's administration is briefly mentioned as well.
