Abstract
This article focuses on recent and future population development in Central Asia. It describes the impact of the breakup of the Soviet Union on mortality levels in the area and discusses possible causes behind the recent increase in the total fertility rate.
Although the region will continue grow in population, this increase will take place in a constant pace.
