Abstract

Demographic population aging is a term in media often referred to a problem or one of the reasons for the instability of socio-economic systems, but it is a natural development of society. In fact t is a result of improving the health of the population and the quality of human life in general and the beginning of this proces can be noticed already during 18 century.

Unfortunately negative attitudes towards demographic aging are often supported by a unilateral presentation of the development of standard age structure indicators that are used in practice to describe this phenomenon. The standard characteristics do not capture the positive aspect of demographic aging, which is the prolongation of the population's life expectancy.

In addition to standard indicators, there are also prospective indicators that are adapted to changes in life expectancy in time and thus better capture the reality of demographic aging.
