Czech-Polish Interdisciplinary Conference Nations - Cities - People - Festivities

Publication

Abstract

This conference will focus on festivity in the modern and postmodern European city. We will analyze the development of official (state, national, minority) holidays, as well as forbidden festivity.

However, we also welcome papers relating to the anniversary holidays of the annual customary cycle and family holidays which can be linked to this cycle. The papers can be constructed as surveys (development of a certain holiday against the backdrop of changing times) or as microanalyses of individual interesting phenomena related to festivity.

On the theoretical level, it is possible to think about the contrast between festivity and everyday life, spontaneity and forced festivity, festivity as a means of political-power manipulation, festivity and socio-political change, etc. A doctoral section will also be part of the conference.
