Chapter is about utilising of imaging modalities (skiagraphy, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography and methods of nuclear medicine) in the patients with back pain. Introduction of the chapter focuses on the indications for these imaging modalities, including possible errors in request forms.
The next part of the chapter is about individual use of the imaging methods, with a brief description of their principles, about their strong and weak points in imaging and also about the field of their indications. The added pictorial part shows several pathologic conditions of the spine, which can be commonly encountered.
A summary of the advantages and limitations of the described methods is given in several tables.
